Separate - Don't Cross Contaminate
Food safety ia a scientific discipline describing handling, preparation, and storage of food in ways that prevent foodborne illness. This includes a number of routines that should be followed to avoid potentially severe health hazards.
Cross contamination is the physical movement or transfer of harmful bacteria from one person, object or place to another.
Cross contamination ia a key factor borne illness (food poisoning), and it has four common sources: 1-Food 2-People 3-Equipment 4- Work surfaces.
The best prevention method is by SEPARATION whenever; Shopping, storing, preparing / handling and serving.
Some useful hints:
- Seperate raw meat, poultry and seafood from other foods in your grocery store shopping cart and in your refrigerator
-If possible, use one cutting board for raw meat products and another one for fresh fruits and vegetables
-Always wash hands, cutting boards, dishes, and utensils with hot, soapy water after they come in contact with raw meat,poultry, seafood, eggs, and unwashed fresh produce.
